About Angus Bike Chain CC
Formed in 1979, as the Carnoustie Cycling Club and primarily a road racing, track and time trialling club, the club has evolved over the years to include mountain bike cross country and downhill racing members, and is well represented at Scottish events in all these fields.
The name was changed in 2000 to reflect the fact that the club membership was drawn from all over Angus, Dundee and beyond. The club is primarily a competitve cycling club with a significant proportion of the members competing on the road, track and in Mountain Biking, both cross country and downhill. Many members also take part in the ever growing aspect of non competitive challenge rides again both on the road and on the mountain bike. The club does not have an established meeting place or club house and the majority of club information is passed out by email to the members on a regular basis.
Membership is open to all, however anyone under 16 considering joining the club is encouraged to begin at the Discovery Junior Cycling Club based at Caird Park in Dundee. Here youngsters between the ages of 9 and 18 have opportunities to learn, compete and receive coaching in road, track and mountain biking before deciding which of the senior clubs to move up to once they reach 18 years of age. Several Angus Bike Chain CC members are associated with the Discovery Club either as coaches, helpers and office bearers, with other adults coming from the Dundee Thistle and Cyclesport clubs in the city.
